welcome

Although one of the premier destinations in all of Sonora, San Carlos remains a very safe, quiet and calm seaside community. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation away from a tourist-dominated resort atmosphere and free of 'vendor hassles', you owe it to yourself to experience this seaside jewel on the Sea of Cortez.

With pleasant average temperatures varying from 17° - 32°C (64° to 90°F) throughout the year, guests of our home can enjoy a wide range of activities suited to the time of year that you choose to visit.

For those who enjoy water sports, there are beautiful unspoiled sand beaches, spectacular diving and snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, swimming, wind surfing and sailing in the crystal clear, rippling waters. For golfers, there is an 18-hole championship course in the heart of the community.

If you want to just relax and take in the ambience of the Mexican eateries and cantinas and enjoy the Mexican way of life and the helpful, kind people of this seaside community, our home will provide you a wonderful base from which to explore. Within a 5 minute walk from the house you will find yourself on the shores of the Sea of Cortez on a beautiful white sand beach that reaches to the amazing sunsets and the Soggy Peso Beach Bar - where you can enjoy margaritas and crab tostadas until it is time to walk home along the beach in the moonlit night.

Our home sits within the boundaries of the lovely San Carlos Plaza Hotel where, as a guest of our Villas California home, you are entitled to use the amenities of the hotel including the pools, fitness facility, tennis court, restaurants and bar (with price discount in the restaurants if you are lucky). The neighbourhood seaside palapa, pool and Jacuzzi are located about 200 metres from our home and are also available for your enjoyment.

Within 20 minutes of our home you can find yourself in the city of Guaymas, a bustling sea port of 150,000 where you can experience the ambience of a Mexican working town. Guaymas is well-known for its shrimp fleet and local restaurants feature succulent shrimp, as well as many other types of fresh-caught fish including Dorado (Mahi Mahi). For a change of pace, drive 1 ½ hours north on the safe, 4 lane divided highway to the Sonora capital of Hermosillo, a city of over 1,000,000, where historical treasures and big city shopping await you.

Hiking in the desert that reaches the sea at San Carlos will amaze you. A 'must see' is the Nacapule Canyon where you will find an extraordinary mix of elephant trees, senita cactus, fig trees and flowering bushes - a beautiful botanic garden. If you want to venture farther afield the famous Copper Canyon, larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon, is within a day's drive of San Carlos.

In the event that medical or dental treatment is necessary, San Carlos is blessed with excellent English-speaking clinics supported by an outstanding ambulance service.

So visit, relax and enjoy the wonders of San Carlos!
